Am I fit enough for CrossFit?

‘I’m not fit enough’

This is arguably the most common reason we hear for people not joining CrossFit. We’ll tell you what we tell them; that’s bullsh*t.

CrossFit is specifically designed as a form of fitness that is inclusive; which means, yes that’s right, it’s for everybody. We’ll spare you the hard sell (on this occasion), but basically CrossFit is a series of workouts that can be completely scaled to each and everybody’s individual fitness level.

Our members

At CrossFit 3D we have every kind of member; retirees in their 70s, office workers who sit at a desk all day, PE teachers and personal trainers, new mums taking some time back for themselves, and even teenagers. There is no perfect CrossFitter. There is no perfect workout. There is just a willingness to try and a determination to succeed.

Some of our members join CrossFit to lose weight, others join to get stronger or find a new challenge. There are many many reasons to join CrossFit and very few not to. Not being fit enough isn’t a reason, it’s an excuse.

On-ramps

Throughout the year, we offer kickstarter or on-ramp classes where you can learn the basic methods and movements used in CrossFit. Once you’ve figured out the correct form and what weights you are comfortable with, you can join the main classes and gradually scale up. There’s no pressure to know what you are doing straight away or to take on the heaviest weights.

CrossFit Trainers

CrossFit trainers aren’t just there to tell you what to do. They check each participant is comfortable with the workout and walk through ways they can modify it to suit each person’s abilities. There’s no expectation to complete the workout RX, either as a beginner, or when you’re 5 years deep.

Team work

The beauty of CrossFit is that it’s a group workout so everyone is facing the same challenge. Every member started out having never done CrossFit before; they know how you’re feeling when you complete your first WOD, they understand that look when you think you can’t do it and they’re right there to tell you you can.

Your choice

Whilst CrossFit genuinely is a scalable and inclusive sport, it isn’t for everybody. You might just not enjoy group exercise or you might want to specialise in powerlifting and so CrossFit’s constantly varied workouts won’t be for you. But, not being fit enough is exactly why you should try CrossFit. Every workout can be scaled, there’s a trainer to guide you through every move and you will, without question, get fitter.

If you aren’t trying CrossFit because you think you aren’t fit enough, then what are you fit enough for? And when will you be ready?

If not now. When?
